McCain is voice of Netanyahu in US Congress: Mark Glenn

US Republican Senator John McCain

Republican Senator John McCain is the voice of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the US Congress, according to an American political commentator and activist.

Mark Glenn, writer and co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement, an interfaith forum dedicated to uniting Muslims and Christians against Zionists, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Monday.

Talking to CBS News on Sunday, McCain, chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, censured President Barack Obama for having “no strategy” to deal with the ISIL terrorist group.

Commenting on McCain’s statement, Glenn said, “I think first thing we have to keep in mind when considering anything that John McCain says, particularly when it involves American foreign policy in the Middle East, is that you are listening to the voice of Benjamin Netanyahu.”

“John McCain, like a number of other US representatives and senators in the US Congress, is a Netanyahu’s man. He is there to do Netanyahu’s bidding,” he added.

“So when John McCain is criticizing President Obama over Obama’s policies regarding ISIS, or ISIL, what you are listening to are the complaints of Benjamin Netanyahu,” he noted.

“Now in this case Netanyahu wants American boots on the ground in Syria and in Iraq, just as the American boots were on the ground in Iraq, beginning all the way back in the early 1990s,” Glenn said. “This is Israel’s plan for pulverizing the various countries in the Middle East in preparation for what hardliners, such as Netanyahu, envision as greater Israel.”

On January 16, the Pentagon announced that it was planning to deploy about 1,000 troops to train the so-called moderate Syrian militants to fight against ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government.

The Pentagon said the training is expected to begin in the "early spring" and will take place in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.

In December, the US Congress approved $500 million for the Pentagon venture.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to reports, the United States and its regional allies - especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey - are supporting the militants operating inside the country.

According to the United Nations, more than 200,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil that has gripped Syria for nearly four years.
