On January 7, two gunmen attacked Charlie Hebdo’s Paris offices, killing 12 people. The al-Qaeda branch in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, On January 14, the French satirical magazine once again published a cartoon of the Prophet on the cover of its new edition despite warnings that the move is provocative.

This comes as Islamophobic PEGIDA rallies are taking place in Germany, mosques are coming under attack in France, and legislation continues to be introduced to curb the rights of Muslims in the West.

Co-founder of the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Arzu Merali told Press TV that extremists in France and other European countries have been encouraging satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and other media outlets to publish content offensive to Muslims.
