Anti-Israel campus protests
The clampdown on pro-Palestine protesters at US Universities continues to make headlines. Students, however, are determined to express their resentment at the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza. At Portland State University, police forces arrested at least 12 people. The University of New York was also the scene of anti-genocide rallies. The police forces moved in on students' encampments, clearing out the tents and making dozens of arrests. In Seattle and at the University of Washington, students called on their authorities to cut ties with Israeli-linked companies. At the University of California in Los Angeles, protesters said they are determined to continue sit-ins and rallies until authorities meet their demands. So far, some 2,200 have been arrested on campuses. Pro-Palestine campus protests have gained global momentum, with Mexican students also joining in.
Yemen supports Palestine
The Yemeni protesters in the cities of Sa’ada and Sana’a chanted slogans against Israel and its main accomplice, the US. They also voiced support for the army’s operations against Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea. The demonstrators also praised the Yemeni army’s attacks on American and British ships in retaliation for their airstrikes on Yemen.
Russia warns West
Russia says its troops have taken control of over 500 square kilometers of territory in Ukraine this year. Russian Defense Minister says Ukrainian forces have been retreating along the front line. Sergei Shoigu also says Russian troops are breaking what he called a network of Ukrainian strongholds. Kiev’s military officials have confirmed the retreat in some areas and said troops have fallen back to new positions. Meanwhile, Moscow has warned against any Western-backed Ukrainian strike on the Crimean bridge or Crimea itself. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said the attack is doomed to fail and will be met with a devastating revenge strike. Russia has repeatedly warned that the West’s military support for Ukraine is provocative and will only prolong the war, which started in 2022.
