Gaza ceasefire talks 

Talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza have resumed in Egypt’s capital Cairo. Hamas resistance group’s delegation is headed by Khalil al-Hayya. Israel has yet to send a delegation for the negotiations. The talks are being held with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States. Egyptian sources say there has been significant progress in the negotiations and mediators have reached an agreed-upon formula on most points of contention. The ceasefire proposal includes three stages, with the first stage involving a ceasefire for approximately 40 days, along with the release of Israeli captives on humanitarian grounds in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners. A permanent ceasefire and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip are among Hamas’s main demands.

Banning genocide witnesses

A Palestinian-British doctor with a first-hand account of the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza has 
denied entry into France where he was scheduled to speak on the medical crisis in the strip. Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a London-based reconstructive surgeon, had been a doctor in Gaza hospitals since the beginning of Israel's genocide. He was turned away by border police on arrival at Paris' Charles-de-Gaulle airport on Saturday. He described this as the European Union's attempt to silence the witnesses of the genocide in Gaza. In March, Dr Abu Sittah was detained and forcibly prevented from entering Germany, where he was also scheduled to speak at an event in Palestine. Germany has banned him from obtaining a visa for one year in the entirety of the Schengen area. Doctor Abu-Sittah became a prominent voice on Israeli war crimes in Gaza after what he witnessed in hospitals there. 

Protests for Palestine

University students across the world continue to protest against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and the brutal police crackdown on American campuses. Starting with the US where the students have once again taken to the streets around New York University after police violently cleared a pro-Palestine encampment on the campus. Over a dozen people were also reportedly arrested there. Similar crackdowns and arrests have taken place in other universities such as Yale, Columbia, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech among others. The police have rounded up more than 2-thousand-three hundred students and academic staff so far. US protests have spilled over to dozens of campuses around the world. Hundreds of students gathered at the Havana University in the Cuban capital in solidarity with their American counterparts. Similar protests are also underway in France, Canada, and the UK.
